The Executive Chairman of the Lausanne Movement, Rev. S. Douglas Birdsall, will visit Ghana on Thursday October 25, 2012 as part of a four-country Africa trip this month. He will be meeting with African Christian leaders and to celebrate God’s continued blessing of growth on the Church in Africa in this century and for the successful hosting of the 3rd Lausanne Congress on World Evangelisation. This week, 16th – 25th October 2012, marks the second anniversary of the historic The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization: the first ever-global gathering of Lausanne leaders to be held in Africa, which took place in Cape Town, South Africa in 2010 and brought together four thousand Christian leaders from 198 countries. The major outcome of the Congress is The Cape Town Commitment (www.lausanne.org/ctcommitment), a document which now serves at the strategic framework for world evangelization for The Lausanne Movement. The Lausanne Movement serves to mobilize ‘the whole Church to take the whole Gospel to the whole World’. The Lausanne III (Cape Town 2010) which has been called the most globally representative gathering of the Body of Christ in history was attended by 40 Head of Churches and key Christian leaders from Ghana including Apostle.Dr. Opoku Onyinah, Rt. Yaw Frimpong -Manso, Rev. Francis Amenu and Rev.Dr. Steve Asante. Ghana has also been one of the first countries to hold a very successful National Congress on Evangelisation (NACOE 2012) as a follow up to the World Congress.Rev. Birdsall was welcomed to Africa by Nana Yaw Offei Awuku (Ghana), Lausanne International Deputy Director for English, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Africa and Emmanuel Ndikumana (Burundi), Lausanne International Deputy Director for Francophone Africa.According to Mr. Offei Awuku, “The visit of Rev. Doug Birdsall to Ghana comes at an important period for the Nation, as local churches work together to evangelize the nation and pray for peace in the upcoming general elections.“A major outcome of the Cape Town 2010 Congress was a call to the global Church to a reformation of H.I.S lifestyle and leadership. This is a clarion call to follow the transformational lifestyle of Jesus in Humility, Integrity and Simplicity”.Rev. Birdsall will meet with Heads of Churches, Mission Agencies, Seminary Lecturers, Corporate Executives and Younger Leaders at the Hephzibah Christian Center, near the Peduase Lodge on 25th October from 2.30pm – 5.30pm to share fellowship and give an address on ‘The Strategic Role of the Church in Africa for Global Missions Today’.Rev. Birdsall says returning to Africa on the second anniversary of the Congress is gratifying because, “the time spent organizing Cape Town 2010 allowed me to develop deep and rich friendships with many African leaders. Seeing my brothers and sisters in Christ in Africa is like coming home again.”The Executive Chairman of Lausanne will also interact with some young Christian leaders in line with Lausanne’s commitment to developing young leaders as the focus for global evangelism. As part of the activities in connection with his visit, Lausanne Africa in partnership with the Global Generosity Network is working with African Leaders to establish the Missions Africa Trust Fund (MATF) with its office in Ghana. The MATF will be under African leadership and is envisage to mobilize and multiply resources from Africa in support of Mission Initiatives in Africa and globally.Ghana has made very significant contributions to the growth of The Lausanne Movement and to the growth of the global church. Growing out of the 1974 International Congress on World Evangelization convened in Lausanne, Switzerland by Rev. Billy Graham, Rev. Dr. John Stott and Bishop Jack Dain. The first International Director for the Lausanne Movement was Rev. Gottfried Osei Mensah, a Ghanaian professionally trained as a Chemical Engineer. Lausanne 1 provided the global church with a greater emphasis on holistic evangelism, introduced the Unreached People Groups concept, and produced The Lausanne Covenant. Lausanne 2 (Manila 1989) emphasized men and women working together in partnership for the Gospel, focused on the power of partnership and collaboration, and produced The Manila Manifesto, a further articulation of The Lausanne Covenant.Currently, Rev.
