Police in the Upper West Region are on high alert to avert potential clashes as a disputed Wa Naa is sworn in later today.
Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo is expected to be sworn-in even though a case challenging his legitimacy is pending at the Supreme Court. The rival Wa Naa, Alhaji Issah Seidu and his elders have petitioned the President to quickly intervene and halt the swearing-in ceremony, claiming the act would be illegal.Alhaji Issah believes the ceremony today could spark violent clashes.
Meanwhile the regional police commander, DCOP Kofi Danso Acheampong says there is no cause for alarm.“As far as we the police in Upper West region are concerned, we are not aware of any petition against the swearing in of Wa Naa…We are going to provide enough men to make sure that the function goes on peacefully and then protect life and property…”
