After months of waiting, members of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Association (GUTA) have run out of patience.They took to the streets Thursday morning to demonstrate against what they say is government’s failure to stop foreigners from engaging in the retail trade.The traders marched through the principal streets of Accra before converging at Rawlings Park in the Central Business District.GUTA says the action is occasioned by the failure of a government taskforce to supervise the removal of all foreigners operating retail shops in markets across the country.Reports say several shops at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Tip Toe lane in Accra have been closed.Most of the traders say they only complied with a circular in the market issued by GUTA. However the AMA says it did not direct the closure of shops in the market.Its Public Relations Officer, Nuumo Blafo told Joy News "If they [the traders] are going on a demonstration, nobody stops them…but then it will also be wrong for them to give orders because they are not those who run the city…”
