An Accra Circuit Court on Friday sentenced Peter Gift, a mason, to 30 years imprisonment for pouring petrol on a pharmacist and threatening to set her ablaze if she refuses to surrender all valuables in her possession, including money.The accused, a Liberian national, pleaded guilty to charges of robbery.According to the prosecution, on November 1, 2012 around 9 am, the accused went to Tonjoce Pharmacy in Labone, where the complainant works as a Pharmacist. He requested to buy medication to cure typhoid.However, whilst the complainant was checking the prices of the medicines for Peter Gift, he poured petrol on her and threatened to set her ablaze if she did not surrender all valuables and money in her possession.The Prosecutor, DSP Morkeh told the court, the complainant offered the accused GH₵40 which he rejected and rather marched her to the safe which contains the Daily Sales for the Pharmacy.The accused took an amount GH₵470.30 from the safe and bolted.He was however unlucky as the complainant raised alarm, leading to his apprehension by good Samaritans who chased him. He was later handed over to the police.
