The Asantehene Lands Secretariat has launched a lease documentation Project to grant three months moratorium to all persons, groups and institutions who need to obtain leases on their lands within the Kumasi Traditional Area to have them done at highly reduced cost.
All persons or institutions in possession of allocation Notes on lands within the Kumasi traditional area should submit them to the Asantehene Lands Secretariat for the acquisition of a lease to their lands.
This is to make land documentation affordable and remove processes that delay documentation.
In his quest to promote socio-economic development of the Kumasi Traditional Area with land tenure security as the backbone, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is seeking to adopt a pragmatic approach to formalize all land grants in the traditional area.
The thrust of the innovation is to make land documentation affordable and remove all bottlenecks that delay the process.
According Nana Kwasi Prempeh, Kumasi Manhyia Hene, “the innovation is to make sure people have valid titles to their lands and at good speed and at less cost”
The Chairman of the program, Oheneba Odusei Poku disclosed that, the exercise is the first of its kind and has been simplified.
He also emphasised the need for proper street naming and said, if that was being done properly in the country, it could fascilitate identification of properties. This he said, must go with lease documentation which could even help someone obtain loan from a bank
The exercise takes place at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace from 12th November, 2012 to 28th February, 2013. The General public is encouraged to take advantage of it to normalize their land documentation.
