The family of the late former Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has insisted they want the mortal remains of their son brought home for burial. A brother of the late former Vice-President, Alhaji J.J. Suleman told Joy FM’s Top Story the family believes it was only proper for the late Alhaji Aliu to be buried in his birth place of Yendi or Tamale in the Northern Region. Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu had announced the late former Vice-President would be laid to rest at the Military Cemetery, Osu, Accra. But the family says that will not be acceptable to them. Family members have currently moved from Yendi to Northern Regional capital, Tamale awaiting the arrival of the mortal remains of Alhaji Aliu for final funeral arrangements and burial in accordance with Islamic traditions, Alhaji Suleman said. Alhaji Aliu Mahama died at the Cardio Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra Friday morning after a short illness. Responding to the demands of the family, Mr Iddrisu said the government had no objections to the request. He said the government was willing to go along with any decisions reached by the family of the late former vice-president.
