Security has been tightened at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology ahead of the much publicized high level meeting with presidential candidates. The meeting, organized by the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) and National Peace Council in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace is part of strategic actions that the National Peace Council has initiated to strengthen political and security in the country. Under the theme, ‘Promoting Peaceful Elections and Justice’, the meeting is expected to promote peace, national unity and stability during and after December polls. But before the arrival of presidential candidates at the event venue, security has been tightened with both uniform and plain clothed personnel on alert. Personnel of Bureau of National Investigations, National Security among others as part of security arrangements are scanning participants at the event which is strictly by invitation. Presidential candidates are expected to sign a declaration on ‘taking a stand against electoral violence, impunity and injustice’. Organizers say the two former presidents, John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings as well as the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II are attending the event alongside the Chief Justice Theodora Georgina Wood and Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye. Other invited dignitaries include the Electoral Commissioner, Dr Afari Gyan.
