Residents in some communities in the Upper East region who could not register in the biometric registration can now do so.
The residents, numbering about 500, boycotted the registration on claims they were not happy with the change of name of one of the polling stations.
After the registration however they sued the Electoral Commission for failing to register them and asked the court to compel the EC to organize a special registration for them. Their demand was met last Friday when a fast track high court directed the EC to register them.
From Monday, the EC will commence a special exercise to register voters in about 6 villages in the Kassena-Nankana East District.
The EC says it will act on the ruling despite the late intervention. Azu Bosco Aninyeri who is the Deputy Regional EC director told Joy News “we are using three days, from Monday to Wednesday.”
As to whether the residents will be allowed to vote on Friday, Mr Aninyere said the commission is yet to decide.
