Supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hit the streets of Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi Tuesday morning to protest the alleged discrimination against residents of the Ashanti region by the Electoral Commission in the just ended general elections.The party alleges that while voters in the region were only allowed to cast ballots after being identified by a voter verification machine, voting in other parts of the country went on without verification when the machines broke down.The party has drafted a petition to be submitted to the Electoral Commission in what will be the climax of the protest.NPP Ashanti Regional chairman Fredrick Fredua Antoh told Joy News that the protest march will not affect the party's decision to challenge the election result in court.He assured the public that the protest would be violence-free.The Labour and Suame Roundabouts will serve as starting points for the two-pronged demonstration, which will end at the Ashanti regional office of the Electoral Commission.Luv FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah, who is joining the marchers, reported that supporters of the party have started filing in for the peaceful protest.The Police in Ashanti region say they are determined to make sure the march is conducted in an orderly manner.According to ASP Mohammed Tankoh, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, measures have been put in place to ensure the march proceeds without any hitches.
