Two envoys accredited to Ghana have presented their letters of credence to President John Dramani Mahama. They are Laura Carpini from Italy and Dr. Renate Schimkoriet of Germany.
Speaking after Ambassador Laura Carpini presented her letters, President Mahama reiterated government’s commitment to the development of the private sector, adding that it will welcome further assistance and partnership from other countries to support the sector.
According to President Mahama, a well-developed and productive private sector will create jobs for the youth, and promote socio-economic development.
The president was recollecting the cooperation between Ghana and Italy in the areas of the Kofi Annan Peace Keeping Centre, Roll-back Malaria Programme and Ghana Private Sector Development Fund.
The 46-year old new Italian Ambassador conveyed special greetings and a congratulatory message from Italian President, Giorgia Napolitana, to President Mahama on his election.
She gave an assurance that she will collaborate with government to take the historic relations between the two countries to a higher level. She noted that Italy has a large presence of Ghanaian workers in various sectors, while there are also many Italian businessmen and women working in Ghana.
The new German Ambassador to Ghana is 58 years and according to her, Ghana’s current economic status is an opportunity for Germany to deepen its economic ties with Ghana.
She also delivered special greetings and congratulatory messages from German President, Joachim Gauck, and Chancellor Angela Merkel to President Mahama.
Responding, President Mahama said relations between Ghana and Germany dated back to the 1960s, adding that Germany is one of Ghana’s good trade partners.
