President John Mahama has applauded the security agencies for the professionalism they exhibited during the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections.The president credited the conduct of the security agencies with ensuring peaceful elections.He was speaking at the Ministry of Defense on Thursday during his last meeting with the Armed Forces Council, of which he is the Chairman.“Your contribution to a large extent ensured the successful conduct of the December 7 elections, and I am most grateful for that”, President Mahama told those assembled.The President also commended the security personnel for their continuous role in offering support to peace-keeping missions.President Mahama said that the government remains committed to resourcing the Ghana Armed Forces to enable them deliver their constitutionally mandated duties.He noted that the discovery, production and distribution of oil and gas have added another dimension to the country’s security challenges and hinted at plans to facilitate the establishment of a thorough operative base in the Western Region to ensure the safety and security of Ghana’s maritime domain and strategic installations.The president reiterated the determination by government to pursue an aggressive housing scheme for security personnel, which he noted as one of the challenges confronting the security services.He said some proposals by local and foreign companies to provide accommodation units for the security services are currently being considered by Parliament.Listen to President John Mahama in the attached audio.
