The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has begun efforts at providing potable drinking water to the people of Kunyavilla in the Northern region after a Joy News report on the increase in diarrhea cases in the community. The residents who rely on a river and dam in the community as their main sources of water, have struggled in recent times with its usage since it has been polluted by waste from the Tamale abattoir. The Ghana Water Company in Tamale told Joy News they have provided water pumps in the community which is underused since the residents need pay for it. But MCE for Tamale, Alhaji Haruna Friday said the water bodies are being cleaned up by sanitary inspectors and potable water will be supplied to the people of Kunyavilla with dispatch. Alhaji Friday said efforts are being made to upgrade the abbatoir and manage the waste emanating from its operations. He said funding had been secured for the project to take off.
