President John Dramani Mahama has wished Ghanaians joy, prosperity and good health as the nation enters a new year – 2013.
Delivering his New Year Message to Ghanaians Monday night, the president observed that the year 2012, aside its blessings came with it several trials and tribulations including the death of a sitting President and a former Vice President.
According to him, “The year that we are leaving behind will be remembered as one of the most eventful in the history of our nation. 2012 was a year of several trials and tribulations. It was also a year of many victories.”
President John Mahama noted that, “Ghana experienced loss and grief of a nature it has never known before with the sudden death of our former President John Evans Atta Mills and our former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama.”
Nevertheless, the country, he noted, experienced a level of patriotism and unity that has never been since Ghana independence adding, “Ghana displayed strong economic growth one that attracted the world’s attention.”
The year, the President added, also witnessed a successful sixth election since the country’s return to democracy and that the manner in which differences and disputes were handled, he noted, is proof that Ghana’s democracy is true and flourishing.
He said he is certain that with the continued grace and protection of God Almighty, the resilience of Ghanaians will guide the country through turbulent times the future has install.
As we enter a new year, the President made a passionate to Ghanaians, especially the youth, to be an active part of the nation building and take “ownership of this country and join in the authorship of its story, our story.”
“Let us together, one people, one nation write a chapter that future generations will consider the most pivotal and inspiration of them all. This is our moment, Ghana’s time once again for greatness…May our coming years be our best ever yet,” President Mahana concluded.
