A group calling itself United Zongo Youth is demanding that government makes public the investigative report on the killing of their seven colleagues at Manso-Nkwanta.
The youth say they do not what is taking government too long a time to release the report submitted by the investigative committee to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia last month.
Convener for the group, Zakaria Musah wants President Akufo-Addo to fulfil his promise to implement the committee’s recommendations by first releases the report to the public.
Speaking to Luv FM’s Prince Appiah, he said they want to know if the report is with the appropriate authority.
“Considering the nature of the committee and what happened before setting it up, we don’t want something similar occurring again,” he said.

The independent committee set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the was submitted to the Vice President last month
The setting up of the independent committee was necessitated by the differing versions of the circumstances leading to the shooting and killing of the seven, who reportedly lived in Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi.
Seven people were shot dead by the police near Anhwiakwanta on the Kumasi-Obuasi road last month on suspicion that they were armed robbers.

A statement by the acting Chief of the Zongo (or predominantly Hausa-speaking community) in Kumasi, Ahmed Rufai said the seven are well-known members of their community denying any claims they were robbers.
Violence erupted in Asawase between the youth of the community and the police leading to the firing of tear gas to disperse a spontaneous crowd protesting the fatal shooting.

The youths from Zongo communities gathered to demonstrate their displeasure after a government delegation arrived the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, to deliberate on the charged matter of reckless police shooting at Manso Nkwanta.
According to the leader of the group, keeping the report in secrecy will only give rise to speculations which are not good for families who have lost loved ones.
“We don’t want that because the security situation within the area is not the best. The committee was initially given one month to finish its work then it was extended for two weeks for them to do a good job.
“What again are they waiting for to release the report over a month after they are done with their work?” he quizzed.
