Former Attorney General Martin Amidu has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to Justice J.C. Amonoo-Monney, who celebrates his 90th birthday today, honouring his legacy of integrity, service, and humility.
Justice Amonoo-Monney, a retired Court of Appeal judge, is recognised by Amidu as a “shining example of honour, integrity, and selfless public service” whose life and career have left an indelible mark on Ghana’s judiciary.
Reflecting on their time together at the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General’s Department, as well as the 1991 Consultative Assembly that drafted Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, Mr Amidu praised Amonoo-Monney’s humility and selflessness.
“This is a man who has never sought to pull colleagues down for self-enhancement,” Amidu remarked, emphasising the judge’s commitment to uplifting others throughout his career.
Mr Amidu highlighted Amonoo-Monney’s distinguished role as Director of Public Prosecutions.
Notably, even three months before his mandatory retirement, Justice Amonoo-Monney refrained from lobbying for a position on the Supreme Court despite his qualifications, instead accepting a role on the Court of Appeal with humility.
He continued to serve on the Court of Appeal until his retirement in 2005 and, thereafter, remained active as a lay preacher and mentor to countless young lawyers, teaching part-time at the Ghana School of Law.
Describing the retired judge as a “precious jewel,” Amidu expressed admiration for Justice Amonoo-Monney’s steadfastness in service and his lifelong dedication to Ghana’s legal system.
As Justice Amonoo-Monney celebrates his milestone, Amidu and his family join Ghanaians in praying for his continued health and prosperity.
“May the Lord guide and guard you in the years ahead,” Mr Amidu wrote, honouring a life marked by faith and service.
