STATEMENT OF THE MENSAH SARBAH HALL JUNIOR COMMON ROOM, UNIVERSITY OF GHANA ON THE DEMISE OF HIS EXCELLENCY PROFESSOR JOHN EVANS ATTA MILLS.
A New Page For The Ghanaian History
The entire membership of Mensah Sarbah Hall JCR is drenched in the deep seas of sadness due to the demise of His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta Mills announced on the 24th of June, 2012.
This unprecedented occurrence is a big blow to our nation and all Ghanaians must exercise restraint and manage properly this misfortune. The JCR therefore registers its purest condolences to the first lady, Dr. Naadu Mills and the entire bereaved Mills family both home and abroad.
The death of our president opens a new page in the history of our motherland and we implore all Ghanaians to still hold on to what our nation Ghana stands for; that is peace, stability and togetherness.
As students poised to contribute to National development, we entreat the National Security Agencies and the Ghana Police Service to do their best in protecting the Nation against external aggression and maintaining internal law and order respectively. We Ghanaians need this to lighten our worry surrounding peace and stability.
It’s also highly important to congratulate His Excellency the Vice President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama now President of our dear Republic for accepting the reigns of ultimate responsibility. It’s our fervent prayer that the Good Lord will guide him to discharge his responsibilities up to expectation. The JCR therefore wishes Him well.
Another germane concern of Vikings and Okpo-mates is that, the late president should not be wiped out of the history of our dear Nation. We students from Mensah Sarbah Hall therefore propose that, every 24th July should be declared a state mourning day in remembrance of a state man and a true and passionate leader of the fourth republic.
Vikings and Okpo-mates pray the soul of His Excellency rest in endless peace.
Thank you.
Signed: Edward Tuttor
JCR PRESIDENT
