The Barekese treatment plant of the Ghana Water Limited (GWCL) is expected to be shut down on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, for maintenance works on the dam by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
This planned and temporary shutdown of the dam will see water supply cut to some parts of the Greater Kumasi Metropolis for at least 8 hours.
In a statement issued by the water company on Monday, July 21, the GWL noted that operations will soon resume once power is restored to the dam.

The temporary outage is expected to affect several communities, including Kronum Cement, Heman, Amoaman, Nketia, Asuofua, CONSAR Quarry, Adankwame, Adugama, Naachia Quarry, Barekese Town, Abira, Offinso, Namong, Kayera, Tutuase, Nsuotam, Kyerekrom, Boamang, Tetrem, Habitat, Ahenkro, Kwamang, Kodie, Akrofrom, Aduman, Aduamoah, Denase, Pampatia, KCG Company, and surrounding areas.
GWL advised residents and institutions in the affected areas to store adequate water ahead of the shutdown and apologised for any inconvenience the temporary disruption may cause.
