Tragedy has struck the Abamba Traditional Area in Atebubu as Abambahemaa Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma, popularly known as Ohemaa of Ohemaa’s Kitchen, has been shot dead in what is suspected to be a targeted attack.
Reports indicate that the queen mother had returned home from her eatery with a colleague, mindful of potential security risks in the area.
She was allegedly ambushed by two assailants who opened fire as she tried to enter her room.
Eyewitnesses say multiple gunshots were heard before they discovered the queen mother lying in a pool of blood on her front porch.
She was reportedly hit about five times, sustaining injuries to her hands, back, and head. Her colleague narrowly escaped and raised the alarm.
Contrary to claims of a robbery, valuables, including her bag, an iPhone 17, and other personal items, were left at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing immediately after the attack.
The Ghana Police Service visited the scene, retrieved the queen mother’s body, and transported it to the morgue. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing.
Residents of Atebubu have expressed shock and grief over the brutal assassination of their traditional leader, calling for swift action from the authorities.
