The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Dwumfuor, has lauded the capabilities of the newly sworn-in President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Abdulai Awudu, describing him as a competent leader capable of steering the affairs of the association effectively.

In a solidarity message delivered during the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Dwumfuor said the experience and contributions of Mr Awudu to Ghana’s media landscape make him well-suited for the role.

He stressed that the new GIBA president’s capabilities cannot be underestimated, given the pivotal positions he has held within the industry.

The GJA President called for renewed partnerships and collaboration among media stakeholders to strengthen the sector.

He also acknowledged the strong working relationship that existed between the GJA and the outgoing GIBA leadership, urging that it be sustained under the new administration.

Mr Dwumfuor further charged Mr Awudu to play an active role in combating impunity and violence against journalists in Ghana.

He revealed that the GJA is in the process of filing a case at the ECOWAS Court against the Government of Ghana over the killing of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

On his part, the President of the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), David Tamakloe, encouraged the new GIBA executives to avoid unnecessary competition and instead work collectively towards advancing the welfare of journalists and media professionals across the country.
