A parliamentary hopeful for Ablekuma Central, Alhaji Halidu Haruna says the constituency currently lacks leadership and that he will restore it if voted as the NDC’s candidate for the December 2012 elections and subsequently become an MP.
Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii-Sen on Thursday, Alhaji Haruna said the incumbent MP of the area, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, lacks the leadership qualities to lead the constituency and that the area is lacking in development.
The NDC will be holding its primaries in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday January 28, 2012 after it was re-scheduled following a number of problems that characterized the original electoral process.
Alhaji Haruna noted that he is contesting the primary because there is disunity and disenchantment among party members in the constituency.
“Our MP is creating disunity among the party members ... and there is the need to change him. He is also not in touch with the grass root, the party is crumbling day by day in the constituency” he asserted.
Alhaji Haruna, who is also a Presidential staffer, stressed that, if elected as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency on Saturday, he will deploy all the leadership qualities in the area to transform the constituency.
He pledged to use humility and respect to serve the constituents more than what the MP is doing currently.
He explained that contesting the sitting MP is not to suggest that he is selfish but rather to serve the interest of the people of Ablekuma Central.
He bemoaned the use of personal attacks by his opponent in the constituency and advised all to resort to healthy campaign in order to keep the party united after the polls on Saturday.
When asked if he stands the chance in this election, Halidu Haruna said “my chance for Saturday is bright and obviously I will be crowned the victor”.
“I promise the people of Ablekuma Central NDC that if I am voted to be the candidate on Saturday, I will not be a run-away MP like what we have now. I will be available for them at all times. Their concerns will always be mine, their cries will be mine and their sufferings will as well be me so they should vote for me”.
