The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie has lauded plans by the opposition New Patriotic Party to establish prayer groups to pray for the party’s participation in the 2012 general elections. All constituency branches of the NPP have been directed to form prayer groups to pray for the party ahead of next year’s elections. This according to the party’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, is borne out of the party’s conviction that they cannot win the elections with their own strength.Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, BADWAM on Multi TV, the Ablekuma Central MP said he was not surprised at the latest campaign strategy adopted by the NPP adding that their new approach goes to show that the NPP has come to know the truth that “in all your endeavors there is a supreme being”.The NPP MP for Asunafo North, Robert Sarfo-Mensah who was also on the show reaffirmed the party’s belief in prayers ahead of the elections saying he did not see anything wrong with the party trying to establish prayer cells.According to him, “solving the problems of a country is not just praying. But prayer without the action will not bear fruit”.He debunked suggestions that the NPP has consistently criticized President Mills as turning the castle into a prayer camp. According to him, the party has not officially indicated that President Mills should cease praying but rather “the President must seem to come out with pragmatic solutions that will solve the problems of Ghanaians.”Mr. Sarfo-Mensah restated the party’s religious stance saying “I want Ghanaians and the world to know that it is not the first time the NPP is praying, NPP has always been very prayerful, we believe in God”. He added that Nana Addo is a Christian and that the NDC should not create the impression that members of the NPP are pagans.
