In the latest turn of events, the bank accounts of COP Patrick Timbillah have been frozen, pending the conclusion of investigations into his involvement in a recruitment scam.
COP Patrick Timbillah is alleged to be operating two private accounts totalling about1 million Ghana cedis.
The Interior Minister revealed the news of the frozen accounts to Joy News following a Monday meeting with the Police Council.
Featuring prominently in the meeting was the case of the embattled Director-General of the Human Resource Department of the Police Service, COP Timbillah.
A special investigations team is looking into the recruitment scam in which 200 would-be police officers turned up at Police installations when no official recruitment was underway.
Timbillah whose signature was reportedly found on some fake acceptance letters has since Friday been interdicted.
A special investigation team has up to 20th March to present its report to the Police Council.
Resorting to a police inquiry has not gone down well with security expert Dr. Kwesi Anning who has a "strong" conviction that an independent committee can do a more "thorough" job.
The Minister did not dismiss the option of using an independent committee but said it is proper to give the ongoing investigation team a chance to conclude its work.
If "we are not satisfied with the [report], the [Police council] will take the next step", Mark Woyongo said.
Woyongo said Timbillah has also been dispossessed of his gun.
