Ghana’s premier beverage manufacturer, Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) today joined the league of companies sponsoring this year’s National Farmers Day event with a package worth Gh₵70,000.

The company has been a consistent sponsor of the annual National Farmers’ Day. ABL has since 2013 however increased its sponsorship package to include the awards for the National Best Cassava Farmer and some Regional Best Cassava Farmers.

This year’s package will see the Best National Cassava Farmer, as well as Best Cassava Farmers in the Volta, Eastern and Western Regions, receiving power tillers, motor carts, crates of Eagle Lager (ABL’s Cassava beer) cutlasses, wellington boots and other merchandise from ABL; and 100cases of assorted drinks for the National Farmers Day event.  The gesture is to demonstrate the company’s commitment to enhancing the livelihood of Ghanaian farmers as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

Indeed, in recognition of ABL’s consistent sponsorship, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture recently conferred a Platinum Award on the company at a sponsor’s awards ceremony in Accra.  ABL has among its brand portfolio, a number of products whose major raw material is locally produced such as Stone Lager (rice beer), Chibuku (sorghum) as well as Eagle Lager (cassava beer).

ABL’s Supply Chain Director, Mr. Richard Edzeame, who led officials of the company to present the package of the ministry, noted that as a subsidiary of SAB Miller, ABL believes in accelerating growth and social development through its value chains; translating in the prosperity of its operations and the livelihoods of its stakeholders.

To this end, he stated, ABL, for many years now, has supported Ghanaian farmers by using locally produced maize, sorghum, cassava and rice in the production of four of its major brands which in turn offer sustainable incomes to these Ghanaian farmers.

“We take a lot of pride in the use of locally grown raw materials in the production of our brands especially Eagle Lager, as such the role of our farmers in the success of our business is of much value to us,” he noted.

Mr. Edzeame expressed sincere appreciation to the hardworking farmers, adding, Accra Brewery is grateful for their support in keeping ABL in business.

On his part, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Crops, Ahmed Alhassan Yakubu said, “We want to assure you that the support will be used for the purpose for which it has been donated and we will pass on your message to our deserving farmers. We thank you so much and we do recognize your contributions as allies in the celebration of the annual National Farmers’ Day.

ABL, the nation’s premier brewery, is committed to contributing to the growth of the economy through direct employment, tax contributions and the support of its stakeholders, including small holder Ghanaian farmers.

The donation towards the Farmers’ Day Celebration is an annual affair and continues to highlight the company’s strong commitment to support the Ghanaian economy through increased use of local raw materials thereby creating rural wealth.
