About 160 students have been awarded various degrees and diplomas by the Accra Business School.
The graduands at the school's 7th congregation consisted of 83 MBA’s, 64 Postgraduate Diplomas and 13 bachelors’ degree. Additionally 21 outstanding individuals were conferred honorary fellowships consisting of 1 senior fellow, 7 fellows and 13 Associate Fellows. 10 Alumini achievement awards were also presented.
Held in Accra at the College of Physicians and Surgeons under the theme: 'Business education economic development and democratic stability,' the event brought together the academia and stakeholders in the educational sector.
Guest Speaker was Prof. Emeritus Stephen Adei, Chairman for the National Development Planning Commission.
In his welcome address, President of the Institute, Bishop Gideon Titi-Ofei, touted the Accra Business School as an Institution poised to change Ghana through leadership and to produce the human capital needs of today’s world.
He observed that quality teaching and learning encompasses Lecturers who bring industry to the classroom by producing individuals who become either entrepreneurs or employees who can make companies grow to employ more people. “That is what Accra Business School stands for” he said.
Bishop Titi-Ofei urged the students to go out and become the true leaders of change explaining that one can learn more as leaders by listening rather than talking.
The Dean of the School, Prof. Elvis Cornerstone in his address underscored that celebrating the achievement of graduands in obtaining their awards and degrees is a clear demonstration of the investment in the high standard of quality teaching and learning at the Accra Business School.
“The teaching at the Accra Business School is informed by the highest quality of Lecturers and Professors who are well versed in their specialized fields and more importantly in their various fields of research” he said and expressed optimism that such approach provides the students with first-hand access to new and innovative projects which enhances their knowledge.
Speaking on the topic: Business education economic development and democratic stability, Prof. Emeritus Stephen Adei said it was important that everyone becomes concerned about the type of governance in the country explaining that everyone is a political being as such should be concerned about whether he/she is being governed well or not.
Prof. Adei elaborated about Ghana’s democratic regime and outlined many interventions that make democracy a success which he said includes the introduction of social intervention programs such as free healthcare and education. He called on all stakeholders including the media to serve as watchdogs to keep the Government on its toes for a stable democracy.
