The Accra film school has graduated 49 students at a ceremony held at the Silver Bird Cinemas at the Accra Mall.

Mr Jim Fara Awindor who was the Chairperson for the ceremony called on the film-makers in the country to come up with true and inspiring African stories that can change and develop the country.

Mr Joe Lartey, Ghana's veteran TV host and sports commentator, a board member and lecturer at Accra Film School, led the matriculation oath and urged students to live by the oath.

He asked the students to be guided by the oath everywhere they find themselves.

Nathaniel Attoh in a keynote address stressed on the lack of interest and support for the film and television industry in Ghana.

He recalled how the first season of the Guinness Football Challenge was shot and hosted in Ghana, but was later moved to South Africa due to lack of studio space capacity in Ghana.

He also cited the Tigo Advert which was shot in India during the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana due to the lack space and poor investment.

Nathaniel Attoh therefore called on government as well as the private sector to focus more on the creative arts industry.

He noted that the screening of foreign telenovelas by television stations is killing the film and television industry in Ghana.

Executive Director of Accra Film School, Mr Rex Anthony Anann asked the graduates to continue learning since their graduation from the Accra Film School was just a first step to acquiring knowledge.

 “I always find it gratifying to hear our old students doing well in their careers. Barakisu a presenter at Viasat1, Elijah an Editor at Ghone TV, Aaron an Editor at UTV, Bright Asiamah Cortez, Director of Trailer TV, showing on Ghone TV, Vincent in Benin, running advertising business and many more”, he said.

Four projects were selected for screening at the ceremony from among 49 presented by the graduates.

The projects screened were, TV show hosted by Natalie Forts, a short film Directed by Femi Alfred and Jeremiah Agyepong and a documentary by Abdul Raafi Mohammed which focused on Access to Water in Ghana.

Natalie Fort and Mackoomson Joseph both students of Accra Film School moved guests with a rendition of the Ghana national anthem.
