The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is calling for proper drainage systems in the industrial areas following Wednesday’s downpour which has left several businesses in the North and South Industrial areas in very bad shape.

Plastic, pharmaceutical, fruit processing and printing companies have all suffered huge losses and this could negatively affect their operations.

Joy Business interacted with the owner of one such printing company who said “we’ve printed a lot of clothes; we’ve lost equipment, heavy equipment that are used for printing which are very expensive... We need to relocate with lightning speed”.

An auto shop owner at Asylum Down told Joy Business’ Kuuku Abban “I’m very worried. My customers may not want to bring their vehicles to me because they would consider my place not safe enough. I’ve been here for 18 years now. I’ve never faced anything like that. Some of my machines costing about GHC 8000 are also gone”.

The Association of Ghana Industries insists the way forward is investment in drainage systems.

Chief Executive of AGI, Seth Twum-Akwaboah told Joy Business the flood especially in the North and South Industrial areas of Accra have caused a lot of damage.

“We should pay attention to industry because they are employing so many people. We know this is a natural thing; it’s become a perennial thing. We keep talking about the drainage system but somehow there is always a delay in the whole process and then we are hit by a disaster of this nature”, he said.
