The third Annual Nana Wereko Ampem Memorial Open Golf Championship tees off at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Friday, December 5.
Mr Kwabena Oteng Aboagye, genenral manager of the Club, who announced this in Accra on Monday, said the one-day 18-Hole Stable-Ford competition open to both amateur and professional golfers is in remembrance of the ‘Oyeeeman’ Nana Wereko Ampem the Second, former President of the Achimota Golf Club who passed away in 2005.
He said Nana Wereko Ampem the Second who was also the Gyasehene of Amanokram in the Eastern Region, was the President of the Club from 1990 to 1998
Mr Oteng Aboagye described the late Nana Wereko Ampem as an avid golfer whose contribution to the club has made it what it is today.
He expressed the hope that a large entry of seasoned golfers would participate in the event and give the ‘golf icon a fitting memorial’.
The event which is being sponsored by the Achimota Golf Club and the family of the late Nana Ampem, would be played under the rules of the Ghana Golf Association and the local rules of the Achimota Golf Club.
Mike Ezan, President of the Achimota Golf Club is expected to lead the Achimotoa team, which would include Mike Ben-George, Mike Aggrey, Dan Dennis and Charles Tabi.
The Club organised a similar memorial for the late Nyaho Tamaklo, a senior member of the Club on November 1.
