The year 2015 has been a very challenging one for many insurance companies in Ghana including Activa International Insurance.
The year began with a chain of fires largest among them being the Melcom warehouse fires at Industrial Area in Accra on 3rd January, 2015.
On June 3, 2015, Accra was hit by floods in the midst of which several lives were lost following the explosion of a GOIL Filling station at Circle, Accra.
Activa International Insurance was one of the hardest hit companies, but the company has weathered the storm quite well and has taken relevant steps to pay all claims due to clients.
Meanwhile, the company has been adjudged the Second Runner Up of Ghana Reinsurance Company’s Cedant of the Year award held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra on 4th September, 2015.
When asked how the company is able to survive in spite of being hit by claims worth over GHS 70 million in a single year, Mr. Stephen Kyerematen, CEO of Activa said “the company, apart from its own financial strength is backed by some of the world’s best securities such as Swiss Re, Munich Re, SCOR Re, Africa Re and Ghana Re among others. This means that adequate protection is available to indemnify companies and individuals who insure with Activa in times of crises”.
Mr. Solomon Lartey, Deputy Managing Director, who received the award on behalf of Activa reiterated that “many people especially in Africa do not appreciate the essence of insurance; harbouring the wrong notion that insurers collect a lot of money but do not pay anything out”.
“From where I sit, I know for sure that Activa had not collected premiums worth GHS 70 million in a single year, but the company would pay claims well over this amount following the June 3 floods alone. Everyone needs insurance in preparation for the worst day”, he said.
He urged businesses and individuals in Ghana to contact the Activa office to purchase appropriately packaged insurance policies for their businesses and households.
Activa Group is the originator of the Globus Insurance Network with representation in 40 African countries, whose members provide tailor-made insurance solutions to companies and individuals in African countries bridging Legal, Linguistic, and Monetary and Cultural boundaries.
Activa is rated in the A category by Messrs Global Credit Rating of South Africa and was adjudged the Insurance company of the year at the 2015 AGI Awards.
Activa International Insurance Ghana is located on the 3rd Floor of Heritage Tower in Ridge, Accra.
