Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has unveiled a nationwide programme aimed at turning Ghana into a physically active society, anchored on wellness, recreation and preventive health.
Delivering the announcement at the SWAG 50th Anniversary Awards, he said: “Active living is now a national culture.”
The initiative—known as the National Recreation and Wellness Programme—will introduce monthly district-level activities designed to promote fitness, health education, and community recreation.
According to the Minister, “Its goal is simple: to make active living a national culture.”
He explained that the programme aligns with the President’s directive to leverage sport as a public health tool. “This programme, when launched, will become a core part of Ghana’s preventive health strategy,” he said.
The Minister also confirmed that the Sports College Bill will soon be tabled before Parliament. “We need more trained coaches, sports scientists and therapists. The Sports College Bill will ensure we produce them at scale,” he noted.
Kofi Adams ended by urging national participation: "Ghana must embrace movement. It is time to live healthier, longer, stronger lives together.”
