A Mechanical Engineer in Tema Mr. Albert Yao Dzandu has questioned the priority of Ghana Water Company. He said the recent acute water shortage in the industrial habour city has impacted negatively on productivity and lives.
Speaking on Asempa fm’s mid morning show Abrabo on Tuesday, Mr. Yao Dzandu said the situation has left residents dejected and miserable as some have to depend on contaminated water for survival.
He recounted a sad situation during a recent water shortage where a boy at the age of 10, who was the only son of his brother, went in search of water and did not return.
According to him, the boy was later found dead in a well by someone who also went to fetch water from the well the next day.
Mr. Dzandu was appalled by the consistent failure of the Ghana water Company to inform members of the public about exercises that will affect water supply.
Some of the areas affected during the recent water shortage are Ashiaman, Lebanon, Tema Sakumono Michel Camp Gbatsile, Kpone and Zenu.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Water Company Mr. Stanley Martey has told Maame Akua, the host of Abrabo, that the acute water shortage is as a result of the shutdown of the Kpong water plant because of upgrading works by the Volta River Authority.
