Police in Ada have refused to grant permit to organizers of a demonstration to protest government’s delay in constructing a sea defence wall to stop erosion at Ada Foah.According to the police, the scheduled date for the demonstration, 2nd August, is not appropriate since it coincides with the Asafotufiam festival.Many buildings along the 30 kilometre coastal area have been washed away rendering the occupants homeless.An announcement by the district assembly last week that it will be relocating from the coast due to the impact of the erosion ignited the anger of the residents.According to the residents, the relocation of the district assembly means government has reneged on its promise to build the sea defence wall and organizers of the demonstration insist they will go ahead with or without police permit.
