The Adaklu Anyigbe District National Health Insurance Scheme registered 28,327 people, representing 53 percent of those to be registered since it started work in January last year.
Out of the number, 23,713 people were issued with identity cards, Mr. Evans-Raybon Anyadi, the Scheme Manager, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Kpetoe on Wednesday.
He said though the district was vast they were putting measures in place to register about 80 percent of the people by the end of June.
Mr. Anyadi said some of the measures put in place are visiting communities to register the people under a special promotion package under which those who registered paid GHc7.20 instead of GHc12.00, registration of people above 70 years and students between the ages of 15 and 18 free of charge and issuing of ID cards the same day.
He said GHc11, 307.60 was collected as premium last year while GHc52, 608.00 was paid to its service providers for 4,739 people who accessed health care delivery last year.
Mr. Anyadi said GHc143, 069.00 was received from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), 80 percent of which was to be used for claims management and 20 per cent for administration.
He said the NHIA has provided the Adaklu Anyigbe NHIS with a pickup and seven computers and Adaklu Anyigbe District Assembly also presented them with two computers.
The Scheme Manager said non-availability of a hospital and a pharmacy in the district was a major set back to the scheme and its clients and appealed to the government to consider building a hospital in the district.
Mr. Anyadi appealed to the NHIA to provide them with motorbikes and bicycles as most of the communities were not accessible by cars.
