Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, one of the aspiring presidential candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged delegates to the party's congress scheduled for December this year to vote for a visionary candidate.
He said if they make a mistake of voting for a candidate without such quality, it would ruin the achievements of President John Agyekum Kufuor, NPP and the nation.
Dr. Addo-Kufuor, who was a former minister of Defence under the NPP, made this assertion at the northern sector launch of his campaign for the flagbearership of the party in Kumasi on Wednesday.
The presidential aspirant said with his seven years in office as Defence Minister and 11 years as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia, he has been able to create a cordial relationship between the military and the civilian population.
He said with the support of the NPP Government and the President, a lot had been done towards ensuring national security and the development of the Ghana Armed Forces.
"Rehabilitation of the 37 Military Hospital, construction of the Kofi Annan Conference Centre, the Burma Camp Computer Centre, Housing projects and many others for the Armed Forces go to prove that I have a vision and if given the chance I would really improve the living standards of all Ghanaians."
Regarding his vision for the country, Dr. Addo-Kufuor said if given the presidential slot, he would ensure that teachers were well catered for adding that long distance education would be given a boost and teacher's accommodation would also be handled with care.
He said a party liaison office would be established at the President's office to resolve problems of party members.
Dr. Addo-Kufuor said the National Youth Employment as well as the National Insurance Scheme and the problems of farmers would well be considered under his administration.
He addressed a large gathering including party members and supporters wearing white "T" shirts with his portrait embossed on it, with, "Friends of Addo-Kufuor" boldly written at the back.
There were solidarity messages from delegates of all the 10 regional constituencies of the party.
A sudden power failure nearly marred the meeting but with the swift intervention of the aspirant himself, a generator was quickly installed to provide electricity.
