A former captain of the Togolese national football team, Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor, has expressed support for the parliamentary aspirations of Ghanaian actor, Fred Nuamah.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the former Arsenal striker said he is rooting for his 'brother', Fred's candidature.

The footballer announced his support after the aspirant picked nomination forms to contest in the Ayawaso West Wuogon primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"My brother Frederick Nuamah aka @fredericknuamah has officially picked up forms to contest in the Parliamentary Primaries of NDC in Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

"That is equally my home and I fully support you. Let's make this happen by the Grace of God", the footballer wrote.

Fred, an actor and a film maker had earlier indicated in his statement of intent, his resolve to help the NDC wrestle power from the ruling New Partriotic Party, and the win the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat in particular.

His emergence adds to the tally of individuals who have already expressed interest in the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat.

Earlier, a former Vice President of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council, Moses Baafi Acheampong, announced his intentions to contest the role.

Following the declarations by Moses Baafi Acheampong and Fred Nuamah, there are widespread speculations about whether actor, John Dumelo, will join the race.

In 2020, he led the NDC against the incumbent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan. Though he lost narrowly, his efforts were applauded, with many describing the elections as a 'keenly contested' exercise.

However, some sources close to the celebrity have hinted that the screen icon is considering another constituency in his home region, despite his performance against the incumbent in the 2020 polls.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set 13th May, 2023, for both presidential and parliamentary primaries.

This was announced by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, at the party headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

According to the party, parliamentary candidates will pick a form at a cost of GH¢5,000.00, and pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢40,000.00 which is non-refundable.
