Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has signed a new contract with the Gunners. The 24-year-old Togo international was strongly linked with Barcelona and AC Milan this summer before announcing he would be staying at the Emirates.Adebayor, who scored 30 goals in 48 games last season, only signed his previous contract in the summer of 2007 but has negotiated an improved deal.A statement on Arsenal's website said: "We can confirm Emmanuel has signed a new long-term contract with the club."The new deal, reported to be worth around £80,000 a week is set to tie the striker to the club until at least 2012.Adebayor's future seemed uncertain over the summer but at the beginning of August he stated that he wanted to stay at the Emirates, saying: "I can tell everyone that, yes, I will sign a contract."I have three years left on my contract and I'm putting two or three years more, so I'm very happy being part of this family."He was booed by some Arsenal fans for his perceived lack of loyalty during some pre-season friendlies, notably against Real Madrid in the Emirates Cup.But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said that supporters should give Adebayor their backing."We have to get behind him and support him," said Wenger. "He is a tremendous force and is of tremendous importance for the team - you want your own fans to be behind him."What happened in the transfer period did not always reflect his deep desire and there was manipulation from agents on both sides, but overall I am positive he will recoverSource: BBC
