The sudden U-turn by the Adentan MP Mr Kojo Adu-Asare to run for a second term in office has shocked many including his own constituency chairman.
The Adentan constituency chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Alhaji Zakaria Abdullah, admitted to Joy News that he was clueless about the MP’s retreat.
“Just this morning that I also had a clue that it was the MP who wants to come in for the forms…and it has been a very shocking issue to me.”
The MP had early on this month presented a letter to the constituency chairman notifying the party of his decision not to run any more.
But in a sharp about-turn, Kojo Adu-Asare presently in Turkey, instructed his personal aide and Adentan NDC branch executive member, Kojo Owusu, to pick the nominations forms on his behalf on Wednesday morning.
He is expected back home Thursday to fill out the forms and submit them on Friday before close of nominations.
The constituency chairman, even though he said he has nothing against the decision he felt the MP has not been fair to the about 30 executives in the constituency.
He said the MP’s action does not augur well for internal dialogue, since he has been part of most of constituency executive meetings but did not give any indication of his u-turn.
“I think he should have actually, if not all, but as the chairman he should just tell me this, this and that,” Alhaji Zakaria Abdullah told Joy News’ Araba Koomson.
He said the other executives would be duly informed about the new development at their next meeting.
