21-year-old Godwin Adukpo of CEPS and Millicent Boadi, 26, (Fire Service) won the men and ladies’ races respectively in this year’s Accra Milo Marathon on Saturday, organised by the Dansoman Keep Fit Club under the theme, 'Run for Peace'.Adukpo, from Anloga in the Volta Region and winner of the 2005 edition of the 22-year-old near-42.2km tradition powered home to victory in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 27 seconds, five clear minutes ahead of veteran and event record holder, David Zigah, who clocked 2:35:46.Last year’s winner, Anthony Yin of the Navy, came third in 2:40:33 hours, while Millicent made the distance in 2:56:19, followed in second place by Esinam Torgbadza and then Esther Afedzi in 3:12:59 and 3:26:16 respectively.Adukpo took over the exciting race that saw a heavy participation by individuals, athletics teams and schools at the Burma Camp area and never looked back, breaking away in powerful sprints from a strong group that included a hopeful Vigah.By the Ako Adjei overpass at Kanda, Adupko had started building up what was to be an unassailable lead, and all the way through the High Street area and Makola, he seemed to constantly increase his pace and stretch his lead.By the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Adukpo was only tailed in a distant second by a slowing Yin, with Zigah in yet a distant but pursing pace. Zigah eventually gained in on Yin and took the second spot at Kaneshie, but the sprinting Adukpo was already heading for Korle Bu, throwing doubt and exciting a debate among some media men as to Zigah’s ability to win the race. Indeed by Mamprobi, the die was virtually cast and all arguments narrowed into what time Adukpo was likely to make.
