Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially expressed his intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position for the 2028 election.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr Adutwum announced that he would join the race once the party officially opens nominations.
“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he stated.
Dr Adutwum, who is known for his work in the education sector, becomes one of the latest senior members of the NPP to openly show interest in leading the party into the 2028 general elections.
Dr Bawumia, who served as Vice President under the Akufo-Addo administration, is seen by many as a frontrunner, having previously contested and won the party’s 2023 flagbearer race. However, other influential figures, including Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong, among others, are also lacing their boots to join the race.
This announcement by Dr Adutwum comes barely a day after the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially scheduled its presidential primary for Saturday, 31st January 2026.
This has set the stage for a decisive contest to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
