The Awutu-Effutu-Senya (AES) District Cultural Centre in collaboration with the District Assembly on Saturday held a choral Music Night as part of activities marking the country's fiftieth Anniversary Celebration in Winneba.Participants were drawn from churches, Schools and the Winneba Youth Choir.The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Solomon Abbam-Quaye in his address appealed to the people in the district to get involved in activities and programmes of the celebrations to make it a success. He explained the decentralisation programme to the people and said, it was aimed at distributing developmental projects to every corner of the country and urged the people to contribute towards developmental projects in their communities.Mr. Abbam-Quaye appealed to the people to help protect the forest against destruction, adding that if the alarming rate at which it is being destroyed is not checked the area would soon become a desert. He urged the people to plant trees as part of the programme to serve as windbreaks to protect their houses and the environment and also to provide them with shade.The DCE appealed to the Youth to avoid anything that would not contribute towards the success of their lives, adding that they should avoid indiscriminate sex to prevent contracting the HIV/AIDS virus. Mr. Oxford Samuel Nyarko, district Cultural Officer advised the youth especially students to concentrate on their books to enable them excel in their education.He said the heavy investment being made in them by their parents and relatives would be in vain if they failed in their examinations. The Omanhene of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII, chaired the occasion attended by a large crowd.GNA
