Pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) insists it will embark on next week’s planned demonstration despite attempts by police to restrain them.The group wants to protest against what it claims to be the deplorable living conditions Ghanaians have been subjected to in the past few months under President John Mahama.Even though they have notified the police about the intended demonstration, the police are not happy about the route they have chosen.The police say the ministry area remains a security zone and that they would not allow the demonstrators to use that route.But AFAG is not happy with the concerns by the police.The Director of Operations, Davis Opoku Ansah told Joy News the reasons given for the route change are untenable.“I wonder the security threat to this nation if AFAG goes on demonstration. We are citizens of this country; we have a right to use any route appropriate,” he maintained.“We have argued the only reason those areas will be security threat is when we have the president there. But now it is clear the president has relocated to the Flagstaff Hose. So where in lies the threat. There's no threat.”He insisted that with or without the police AFAG will still go on the demonstration. But the police have warned AFAG will be violating the Public Order Act if it goes ahead with the demonstration without the approval.Accra Police PRO DSP Freeman Tettey warned the police will deal with the leaders of AFAG according to the law if the Public Order Act is voilated.
