The Black Stars will learn their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification fate when Confederation of African Football (CAF) executives meet virtually today.
AFCON tournament is one of the main agendas of Tuesday’s CAF Executive meeting. The Caf executives are expected to come out with new dates for the main tournament and qualification matches which has been disrupted in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
The competition, which will be hosted by Cameroon, has been scheduled to take place in January. However, it looks unlikely as qualifiers are far from done. There are four rounds of games to be played.
The Black Stars won their first two games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe. By virtue of that, they sit comfortably at the top of their qualifying group.
There were supposed to be in action in March for a double-header against Sudan but games were suspended.
Head coach Charles Akonnor will be very much interested in today’s meeting as it will determine when he sits in the dugout for the first time since his appointment as Black Stars coach in January.
