Ghanaian duo Benjamin Azamati and Barnabas Aggerh failed in their attempt to get medals in the 100m event at the ongoing African Games.
Azamati and Aggerh finished fifth and sixth respectively in the final at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday, March 19.
Azamati failed to maintain his good start to the race as he came fifth with a time of 10.45 seconds while Aggerh ran 10.50 seconds.
The national 100m record-holder finished behind second-placed Usheoritse Itsekiri from Nigeria, who clocked 10.23 seconds, Ebrahima Camara of Zambia who came third, and Consider Emmanuel Ekanem of Nigeria, who finished fourth in a time of 10.42 seconds.
Cameroon's Emmanuel Alobwede Eseme, in a time of 10.14 seconds, finished first and won the gold medal in the event.
In the women's 100-metre final, Ghanaian Mary Boakye finished seventh in 11.71 seconds.
Gina Mariam Bittaye Bass of Gambia won the event in 11.36 seconds, followed by Liberian Maia Alyse McCoy (11.49 seconds) and Nigerian Olayinka Olajide (11.55 seconds).
