A newly formed pressure group calling itself Alliance for Responsible Opposition (AFRO) is accusing opposition parties for making irresponsible comments about very key national issues that have adverse affects on “national economic interest and general public good”.
The group says its mandate is to promote “the positive transformation of Ghana’s political culture, practices and traditions by the development of credible, nationalistic, democratic political opposition as a means of radically altering the aims of power from narrow elitist aspirations to the broader legitimate interest of the ordinary Ghanaian”.
Addressing the public in Accra, the group blamed former President Kufour and his allies for “negotiating lucrative deals for themselves” at the expense of the Ghanaian taxpayer.
The statement said opposition leaders rose up in arms against government’s attempt to investigate the dealings of the EO Group in the most reckless and irresponsible manner.
They further lambasted the NPP for sponsoring the Alliance for Accountable Government (AFAG), describing the group as “a cabal of irritant youthful opportunists”.
The group however congratulated the Convention People’s Parties for its contribution to nation building and its support for GNPC’s plan to acquire Kosmos’ stake in the Jubilee fields.
They lauded government’s decision to buy Kosmos’ stake saying it is a step that will provide Ghana greater control of its natural resources.
