An Accra Circuit Court will be impressed upon Wednesday to compel the Attorney General to act in unmasking top government officials who facilitated the trafficking of cocaine to UK by incarcerated Nayeli Ametefe.
Legal practitioner, Frank Davis, who is representing the Deputy Director at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Abiel Ashittey Armah, one of the 12 accused of aiding Miss Ametefeh says he will raise the matter in court today.
"It is important that we put strenuous effort and a campaign on the [revelation] of the true identity of the people she has sworn about. We need to get to the bottom of this matter because other people are being held for crimes they have not committed", Frank Davis said.
Security expert and Head of Research at the Kofi Annan Peace Keeping Training Centre, Dr. Kwesi Aning, also believes government must work with the UK authorities to hunt down the powerful persons in authority fingered by miss Ametefeh.
Lawyer for Miss Ametefeh on Tueday told a UK court that her client has been aided by high and powerful people in authority in Ghana dating as far back as 2004 during the Kufuor administration.
Ms Ametefe, who holds both a Ghanaian and Austrian passport, said she has been a companion to the unnamed powerful persons on several trips across the world.
The 32-year-old lady was yesterday sentenced to eight years in a UK prison for trafficking 12.5 Kg of cocaine. She was also arrested with $23,000 on her.
UK authorities will know on July 6 if they will be allowed by the court to confiscate Ms Ametefe’s assets.
In Ghana the Narcotics Control Board has begun the confiscation process after pasting seizure notices on her house at east Legon.
