The AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine is investing in the educational infrastructure at the Obuasi campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology after donating cash to the management of the university
The cash donation amounting to Gh732,309.40 is to augment the existing infrastructure at the university in the gold mining town.
The donation adds to the over GH₵2.5 million committed to the Obuasi campus project, even after the company handed over its North Mine offices for the establishment of the University campus.
The support forms part of the company’s continuous effort to improve education and enhance community growth in its host communities.
Human Resource Director of AGA Obuasi Mine, Meshack Baah, who led the donation, highlighted the company’s priorities in fostering local education for national development.
He explained the donation was to ease challenges in the school and alleviate the economic plight of students.
“This ongoing support reflects the company’s mission to positively impact communities, with education being a central pillar of their social responsibility,” he noted.
Coordinating Dean of the KNUST - Obuasi campus, Prof Lawrence Darkwah, commended AngloGold Ashanti for their continuous support to the school.
He said the funds will support some of the infrastructural challenges facing the school.
“Our numbers keep on increasing and this presents a huge burden for us since there is pressure on the existing facilities. AGA has always supported us, but we call on other institutions to also come to our aid”, Prof Darkwah stressed.
With the continuous support from AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, KNUST Obuasi Campus is expected to expand and develop its infrastructure, creating better opportunities for students.
