Some veterans on Wednesday refused to take part in celebrations to honour them.
They say they are not happy with how they have been treated by the current and subsequent governments.
However, at the annual Remembrance Day celebration in Accra, some of the visibly weak veterans who fought in the Second World War said what Ghana needs is peaceful co-existence.
They say the best way Ghanaians can show appreciation to the service they rendered to the country is to maintain the peace.
70 years ago on November 11, the guns went silent signifying an end to hostilities in the second World War.
Every year since then veterans who died and those who survived are remembered as a show of gratitude.
At this year's celebration at the Osu Cemetery, Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Ghana.
Other wreaths were laid on behalf of the Commonwealth and allied countries, diplomatic corps, security services, veterans and traditional leaders.
The Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection registered some veterans onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.
