The Agogomanhene, Nana Akuako Sarpong has finally yielded to pressure from his subjects to sack Fulani herdsmen.
This decision became necessary after a massive demonstration of hundreds of people including elders of the town, who vowed to forcefully evict Fulani herdsmen from the Agogo township if the Chief did not rescind a contractual agreement to lease acres of land to the Fulani herdsmen for grazing.
According to some of the demonstrators who spoke in an interview with Adom News, they are outraged by the continuous stay of the herdsmen in the town because, they have committed atrocities ranging from rape to killing of citizens of Agogo.
But addressing the angry mob, Nana Akuoko Sarpong said he would send them packing to help make the town safe.
He said he would take the agreement and send the herdsmen a notice to pack and leave, and should they refuse to leave, he would seek legal redress to evict them together with Alhaji Karim Grunsah of King Faisal, a cattle owner and thought to be a leader of the herdsmen.
All I want to say is that, as you all know I am a lawyer and I knew this issue will come up one day so I personally signed the agreement, and so I am serving Alhaji Grunsah notice, he should come with receipts of all monies he paid us and we shall refund them.
He can move from radio station to station but this decision will not change” Nana Akuoko Sarpong announced to the crowd who had gathered in front of his palace.
Adom News’ checks with Alhaji Karim Grunsah proved that Alhaji was yet to receive any communication from Nana Akuoko Sarpong.
According to him, he will abide by any directive from the traditional authorities.
Alhaji Grunsah is Founder of Kumasi based King Faisal Football Club, as well as President of the Fulani settlers in Ghana.
“Nana Akuoko is like a father to me and so I do not intend to have any grudge with him. Whatever he wants me to do I will do it” Alhaji Grunsah said.
Tempers are said to have come down in Agogo after the assurance from the Chief.
