Agrihouse Foundation has trumpeted calls on government to declare 1st July as National Poultry Day in Ghana.
The declaration when endorsed, will be a major breakthrough that will serve as a boost for the agricultural subsector.

CEO of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Akyeaa Akosa, made the call when she opened the 2024 edition of the Ghana Poultry Day at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
Alberta Akosa said declaring 1st July as Ghana Poultry Day should not be a difficult task for the government as it is similar to Ghana Chocolate Day celebrations.

The event which is in its 4th edition witnessed a significant foreign participation of nationals from the West African subregion.
The programme which was celebrated under the theme, “Celebrating Diversity in Poultry: Roast, Taste and Nourish the Nation,” recorded cooking competitions to create an extensive awareness on the critical need for the consumption and promotion of local poultry products.

Students from selected schools who participated in some of the cooking competitions went home with prizes.

Free poultry products including eggs and grilled chicken, were distributed to patrons.
The programme was also used as a link platform for poultry farmers, poultry equipment companies, processors, feed companies, development partners, input companies, government agencies, banks, tertiary schools, and research institutions to showcase products and services.

Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Hardi Tufeiru, MP for Klottey Korle Constituency, Zanetor Rawlings and President of the Independent Broadcasters Association Mr Cicel Sunkwa-Mills, participated in the celebration.
