Mr Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant has urged delegates to the Party's forthcoming congress to elect a bold and competent flagbearer whose hands are clean.
Addressing prospective delegates at Hohoe in the Volta Region, Mr Agyarko said in order to consolidate the gains made by the Kufuor administration, the Party must first win power by choosing a successor with a flawless character, capable of incapacitating opponents, especially the National Democratic Congress, which he suggested might adopt "frivolities," rather than issues, in its campaign leading to next year's elections.
"Delegates need to consequently elect a leader with clean hands, who is bold, competent, compassionate and dedicated to lead the NPP to a resounding victory", he reiterated.
Mr Agyarko touted his 22 years' service in international banking, saying he had the experience to pursue an expansion in the infrastructure backbone of the economy for rapid socio-economic advancement.
He said the expansion of the country's telecommunication capacity would be one of his priorities, when given the mandate.
"I will demonstrate the highest political will on pertinent national issues, programmes and policies," he said, citing the haggling between the Volta River Authority (VRA) and telecommunication authorities as to who had the mandate to operate the national fibre optic backbone over the former's pylons.
Such problems, according to him, require a leadership decision that would be in the national interest, and not pettiness.
On education, he said the system would be close circuited so that products would be of international repute, comparable to those of China, Japan, Europe and America.
"We shall pursue this vigorously to the hilt, otherwise our collective effort and products would only be of second class or servant class to the world", Mr Agyarko added.
He said the present paradigm on healthcare delivery would be deepened and that the private sector would be allowed to take centre stage while the government would continue to guarantee reasonable access.
He said the housing stock of the country would be enhanced to adequately house Ghanaians.
Mr Agyarko is the Vice -President and head of Global Network Management for Americas in investment management and services of the Bank of New York.
