Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has called on traditional authorities and religious leaders to partner with the government in finding lasting solutions to conflicts within communities.
He emphasised the crucial role traditional authorities and religious leaders play in maintaining national peace and social harmony in the country.
Mr Ibrahim, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Banda Constituency, made these remarks during the annual closing and New Year procession of the Church of Pentecost-Berekum Area, the Goka Pentecost Prayer Camp held at Goka in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.
He noted that through the Ministry, several initiatives have been implemented to strengthen traditional governance and expedite dispute resolution, which include the review of the Chieftaincy Act, provision of resources to Regional Houses of Chiefs and Traditional Councils, and capacity-building programmes for Judicial Committees to enhance the effective adjudication of chieftaincy cases.
However, Mr. Ibrahim indicated that government efforts alone could not secure lasting peace, stressing the need for active involvement from religious leaders, opinion leaders and community members to foster dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting peace and stability within the chieftaincy institution and across faith communities, stressing the importance of collaboration in safeguarding Ghana's social harmony.
According to the Minister, the current structure of the Ministry is designed to strengthen linkages between churches and District Assemblies for improved coordination and resource sharing, while enhancing communication and data flow between traditional governance, religious bodies and local administrative systems, while facilitating joint community development initiatives and improving public service delivery at the grassroots level.
He described these efforts as part of a broader transformational reform to deepen synergy between indigenous governance, faith-based leadership, and democratic institutions, ensuring that traditional and religious leadership remain active and integral partners in Ghana’s national development agenda.
Apostle Robert Ando, Area Head of the Church of Pentecost-Berekum Area, in his sermon, encouraged the congregation to trust in God’s guidance and strength.
He assured them of transformation and protection through the holy Spirit wherever they find themselves.
“Let the strength of God be your guide,” he said," If God is with you and you are favoured by the Holy Spirit, He will not let you remain stagnant."
Apostle Ando reminded the congregation that God has good plans for each soul and encouraged them to continue working hard, assuring them the holy ghost will always strengthen, guide and protect them.
